Analog and Digital

analog-digital

Working with others when you do not know them, their backgrounds and have never met

Today’s problems and issues are complex. To solve them we need to cross borders across professions, languages and cultures. There is no simple way. Technically this may seem easy. I agree. What many of us do not consider is that the users of technology are people. We need to work together!

Collaboration in a digital workplace requires us to learn how to work together without knowing what we understand with all our senses when we meet in person.

Developing ideas into solution requires critical thinking.

How do you tell someone that your idea, approach or solution might be a better choice without hurting this person’s feeling and then win them to build on existing ideas and knowledge together?

At the #3CityCreathon in Berlin, Bratislava and Rome participants were able to train this :

  • Selling your ideas in only 3 minutes – Elevator Pitches
  • Give feedback in a form that can be accepted
  • Digital communication between three cities

This combination between digital communication and analog collaboration developing an idea in teams is the digital workplace of the future present.

A perfect illustration for the eSkills conference in Bratislava where 200 policy makers, business leaders and experts discussed how digital technologies are transforming our lives at a pace never seen before.

Many thanks to all participants, organizers, decision makers, jury members, experts and our digital audience.

If the spark has reached you and you are eager to run a creathon or hackathon yourself, contact your local NetAcad contact.

Until next time

Inspirational Regards

Jutta

You have 200 volunteers

… how would you solve your problem?

whatsapp-image-2016-10-17-at-18-35-11It is not an easy task to collect ideas, from the best to the worst ideas … brainstorming is not simple.

It is really important to go for quantities of ideas first. There are about 3000 raw ideas needed to get one successful product or service.

Tomorrow at about 11:00 the idea pitching to the jury sitting in our three locations Berlin, Bratislava and Rome is on the agenda.

We are inviting everyone to join us in this connect moment and share their thoughts, ideas and questions you might have.

Feel free to forward the invitation to your network – your neighbour, your family, your friends, your colleagues … and of course, your mailman.

We support the cultural change digital transformation is driving and want to make sure that sustainability and social benefit for all parts of our society are always part of the plan.

Digital Transformation and Skills in Europe

Joining forces is the only way to approach this challenge

skills-you-need-netacadOur daily lives become more digital every day. The global marketplace requires all countries, cities and companies to make use of the technology and digital tools we have at our fingertips to improve the systems we use to run our economies, business and lives for more societal benefit for everyone.

This does not only sound difficult, it is difficult and complex.

The only way we can start to understand this challenge is by separating the different levels of society affected and looking at the details of each dimension and the related problems:

  • Country
  • City
  • Company
  • Citizen

Drilling down to the details allows us to understand that these changes affect all levels of our society. This is involving all of us: all professions, all citizens from the youngest to the oldest, for all cultures and all backgrounds. We need the competences, skills and abilities of every single one of us to go through these challenges.

hands-and-brainThe key to mastering lies in our education and continued education systems. The key to get through (every type of) change is learning new skills.

Digital Skills

The European Union and the OECD define the key competences for life-long learning:

  • Critical thinking
  • Communication
  • Problem solving
  • Collaboration

Creating learning spaces where those skills can be developed are on top of the mind of leaders. Innovative Educators engage and learn together with their students, business partners, tech experts and public stakeholders. It involves

  • collaboration of education, businesses and public institutions,/li>
  • bridges and spaces to connect ideas and work together,
  • openness and respect for each other with all our experiences.

Europe in the Digital era
where skills are making the difference

On 17th and 18th October 2016, more than 200 policy makers, business leaders and experts meet to exchange thoughts on how Europe will handle the challenges transforming our lives at a pace never seen before.

In parallel to the conference Cisco Networking Academy offers a unique interactive opportunity and concrete illustration of how technology can make a positive impact by organizing a two-day Multi-country Digitization Creathon for Social Innovation in Bratislava, Berlin and Rome in partnership with MakeSense.

In this Creathon Students come together in 3 cities and work in teams to create solution concepts with strong social and/or environmental impact.

For the 1st time this #3CityCreathon is open to the public

Congratulation to all NetRiders 2015

First NetRiders Winners in a new format

Last week we held the final round of the NetRiders CCNA competition for your region.  This is the competition that awards the two Study Trip Prizes to Cisco HQ the week of 10-16 January, 2016.  This year our Study Trip prize winners will be coming from Czech Republic and Slovakia. Congratulations !!!

1    Marek Suchanek   –   Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Information Technology, Czech Republic
2    Tomas Danis   –   SPŠ elektrotechnická S.A. Jedlika Nové Zámky, Slovakia
3    Nicola Buono   –   Accademia del Levante, Italy
4    Metodi Panayotov   –   Bulgarian Industrial Association-Union of the Bulgarian Business, Bulgaria
5    Corneliu Moglan   –   Telekom Foundation, Romania

Check out the full results on the NetRiders website.

As you know, we made some changes this year.  We moved to a regional competition instead of individual country competitions and we changed the structure to Round 3 (which would have been the equivalent of the International NetRiders in past years).  The twenty Round 3 competitors took a 60 minute, 100 question exam and also were sent a PT file with two challenges that they had to present on during a 15 minute WebEx session and then answer some questions from the judges.

I would like to thank judges Bob Schoenherr and Eugene Morozov who spent an entire day to judge the 20 WebEx sessions. This session tested both technical and soft skills.  Europe, Russian Federation and CIS was the second region to try this new format and we were pleased with all the Round 3 competitors and their efforts.

A huge thank you to all participants for their efforts and time investment!
Congratulations to the winners!

Until next year
Yours

Tracy Granlund

tracy

I am missing photos of our participants which we used to have with our prior NetRiders format when our participants were asked to come to specific locations, so I decided to post a photo of Tracy instead. She is the power behind the NetRiders competitions. Thank you Tracy for all the energy and time you invest every year!
